Black Sun Rising arrives April 24. I have been asked why this song, and why before the album, and I want to answer the question directly.
The album, which comes May 22, is a complete thing: twelve movements through the geometry from the Architect’s Dream to Children of the Ember. Within that arc, Black Sun Rising is the movement that maps the specific configuration of authority that precedes the most acute phase of collapse: the point where the system has abandoned persuasion and is operating on compulsion alone, burning with the cold light of an authority that has lost its capacity to illuminate.
I chose this track as the single because I believe the present moment requires this specific document more urgently than any of the others. The configuration I am describing in this song is not historical. It is operational, right now, in several places simultaneously. The song is not prediction. I do not predict. The song is pattern recognition applied to current conditions, and the current conditions match the pattern closely enough that I believe the document is more useful now than it would be as a later track in a later listen.
The testimony matters most before the geometry completes. That is why April 24. That is why before the album. That is why the album itself follows on May 22, because the full arc requires the full testimony. The single is the doorway. The album is the building. Come in.
